Are you asking about marriage licencing requirements? Or is it the visa situation you wish to clarify? Do you want to stay in Australia or will you return to UK with your new bride?
If you want to get married and stay the proper way to do it would be to get a prospective spouse visa, unless you already qualify for the partner visa? If you went over on a tourist visa and they found your wedding suit in your luggage you could be asked some awkward questions about your real intentions.

Like the previous poster, I'm not sure if you are asking about the visa side or the marriage side.
So from the marriage side,to get married in Australia you need to lodge a NOIM (Notification of Intention To Marry?) with your chosen celebrant at least one month and one day before you get married. You need to provide both of your birth certs (and probaly divorce certs if either of you were previously married). Both bride and groom need to sign the form. But once you pick your celebrant, they will guide you in this process. But you will need to allow sufficient time (absolute minimum of 1 month 1 day) and also fill out the form.
If you are going to lodge a prospective spouse visa, you will need to lodge a NOIM prior to your visa application anyway.

Have you read this?
http://www.immi.gov.au/migrants/part...ospective/300/
You need to read up for yourself unless you want to pay an agent to do it for you.
I am no expert but looks like you can enter Oz marry then stay and apply for a spouse visa in Oz.

For the pmv you do have to be offshore to lodge. But you do not necessarily have to be in the UK. You could fly to NZ (or elsewhere) to lodge your application.
If you have a multiple entry tourist visa then you can re-enter Oz while the visa is being processed .. and then go offshore again for the visa to be granted.
The processing times seem to be increasing all the time .. we were advised 2 months earlier in the year, then advised 3 to 4 months when we lodged in June, and have since been told that it will be 5 to 6 months.
Can you get the application ready to lodge before you fly to Oz for your holiday?
