Default How much do electricians earn in Perth?

Hi

We are currently looking at moving to Perth (north) and I have been trying to find out what the average hourly rate is for Sparks? My husband has 11 years experience and does commercial.

Any info much appreciated

Thanks

Loads, but you ought to be aware that electricians usually have to retrain to meet the Australian standards before they are allowed to work (especially annoying when this comes shortly after having your skills assessed and accepted). I've heard it's a right pain in the arse starting from scratch again but maybe WA is different from other states for this.

We know about what needs to be done but just wanted to know what the average salary was to see if it was affordable for us to move over.

Thanks

In all honesty I would not be moving anywhere now, particularly if you are employed in the UK and have a reasonable house and standard of living. The exchange rate and house prices in UK and Australia are, IMO, prohibitive.

What's fly in fly out? is it flying in from the city into the outback, and then flying out again?

Do you have any more info on it?

Cheers.

I don't want to pee on your parade but a Sparky, fresh off the boat with no 'local' experience wouldn't have a chance of getting a position on the mines unless he had excellent contacts. There's far too many experienced Sparkies with previous mining experience who are already after the jobs.

Going rate for electrical contractors is around $80 per hr, subies around $50 per hour, $45 plus benefits if fly in fly out and between 25 - 35, depending on who your working for, for others.
Hope this helps

Elaine

Ps. To be an electrical contractor its another course over two or three weeks and lots and lots of paper work.

Over this side of the coast, we usually get charged between $70 to $80 per hour for hiring an electrician.. its usually 80 bucks rather than the 70 bucks.

Good luck with it all

If your working on industrial/commercial then it's some serious bucks - although about a year ago a number of the big firms in Perth were hurting and letting the less experienced guys go.

Basic house-bashing is not as well paid though.

Absolutely true, Contracting Sparks(house bashers and jobbers) can earn as much as $80 per hour(and the risks/hassles that come with),on wages between $28-$35, ABN'd Sparks $40-$55.
