I use Multicare thru' Fidelidade Mundial.
Costs about 1100 euros per year for the two of us.We have to pay 10% of any costs.
Hub had a knee op last year...maybe even the year before???...anyhoo...all went well and they paid out no probs.
Afpop recommend a different one...Steppy will know?

Email me the info and I will get some quotes. You get better rates as an AFPOP member so if you decide to go that route you will need to join.
I think it is really worth it as you get help with lots of other stuff!

Are you of an age to really need it?
So far I've found the 'NHS' care here fantastic...€9 for blood tests instead of €250 privately so less than 10%, €3,60 for a scan, €2,20 for an appointment...granted I don't know how much I'd pay for an op but they have been far more efficient here than my docs in the UK. No questions asked, we have all been sent for tests for this that and the other. (no not hyperchondriacs just have syndromes and diseases LOL!)
I believe if you are of retirement age it's even cheaper/free...(I have no idea how old you are btw!!

Hmm well I'm 36 and hubby is 39, moved having just discovered I was falling apart and although I may have to go to Lisbon or get treated back in the UK as as far as I know Addenbrookes is the only hospital specialising in my degeneration (which is viable as oh is still paying tax and NI in the UK) the rest of our care has been brilliant.
Where exactly are you moving to? It's best to get on the list for a local doctor rather than a health centre as it's more personal, but I have to say we only got in because oh is Portuguese they'd turned me down on the 1st attempt! But, I know other brits who are with local doctors and they too have said the treatment has been fantastic. Lots of people I know here that have private health care feel a bit too many tests are carried out, injections given unnecessarily (sp?) and still end up paying €70 in total after a consultation.
Maybe worth trying registering here first, and if you aren't happy after a couple of months get private?

My husband would have waited 3 years for the knee op here without private cover.

I am no expert on health insurance but you need to look out for pre-existing conditions and the age limits.
My colleague Angela Barden specialises in Private Medical Insurance and works with a number of different companies, Portuguese and International.
Give her a call on 281 325 842 (Lloyd & Whyte)

We have been with Medis through the Millennium bank for 3 years and have had no probs, they work on a sliding scale according to your age, at the moment we pay 1300 euros for the both of us.
