Could be considered one of Calgary's tougher neighbourhoods.

The Calgary Police Service Crime Mapping Tool might be one way to get a first sense of whether an area is better or worse...

We're sure the stats have their failings but it'll give an idea when compared to other areas of interest. It wouldn't top our list of communities to move to.

yeah, been through it a few times, wife's uncle (black sheep of the family) used to stay there. but it's awhile since we were there.
What about some of the communities in the NE, are they all variations on a similar theme???

But Forest Lawn is such a quiet, pretty name!
It sounds like a retirement village.

Seems that Calgary is overrun with murderers and lowlifes, especially now I hear the homicide rate went up by a whole 2%. I really I don't know how you people that live there manage to sleep at night, let alone go out onto the streets.

While it's nothing compared to UK estates etc it's one of Calgary's more notorious neighbourhoods in the NE/SE area. I've played five-a-side at the high school pretty regularly and I have a buddy that lives nearby. I've personally always felt safe there. It's more that is just has a bad name. Again, I'll stress it doesn't even compare to areas I've been in the UK. I laughed when we first drove through and was like, "is this it?". It really wasn't that bad. Do some Googling and use the crime mapping tool on the Police website and you'll get the idea.

When we first arrived we took a 2 months rental in Erin Woods, a community a little to the south of Forest Lawn.
We were told we had to send our son to the junr high school that served that area, and he would have gone on to Forest Lawn High, had we stayed.
I researched a little into Forest Lawn High and thought it would be interesting to read some writings by students at the school. The first I came to was a girl telling her story of how she had got into drugs and then had a teenage pregnancy etc etc .... We moved to the NW as soon as we could find a suitable property! (which had always been our intention anyway)
Actually the lad enjoyed his time at junr high there and was sad to move and leave his "new friends", but after an anxious first day at his second "new school" he came home beaming and saying how much nicer the kids and the teachers were at the new place!
Having said all that, I have a couple of friends who live in that area and have had no trouble at all, and are seemingly very happy there. It used to be one of the posher areas apparently (many years ago???)
