Default How to Become a CPA - Non Native Australians- PR Holders

Hi all,

I am post graduate in Accounts (Master of Commerce- Indian qualification) assessed by NIA for Immigration purpose presently in the tunnel of immigration.

Presently I am a member NIA (ANIA) but I feel it to become CPA (Full member ) will be advantage when I will shift to Oz. I have total of 9 years of experience in accounts

How to become CPA

Step 1

You must have at least a bachelor's degree, but it no longer has to be in Accounting or Business. ( I have master degree)

Step 2

Contact CPA Australia for membership information before you immigrate. You must fill out their assessment application. You must be assessed by CPA Australia. They will check to see if your bachelor's degree is equal to their bachelor's degrees. ( Already I passed NIA assessment - So no prob of getting positive assessment)

Step 4

If you have been accepted, you will receive written confirmation from CPA Austrailia.

Step 6

If your application was denied, you must complete a CPA Australia-accredited course, take your exams and then reapply for membership.

After that what are the steps to become CPA - I read the website its quite big and confusing really. Let me try again

If you have got the ability to complete professional level education courses, it should not be a huge problem to read and absorb the information on the CPA website.

Having a qualification that is equivalent to oz undergraduate study will qualify the applicant for associate membership. To be a fully qualified CPA member you need to complete the mentor program for 3 years. This is an excerpt from the CPA website (http://www.cpaaustralia.com.au/cps/r...ENA_HTML.htm):

"To become a CPA, Associate members must complete the CPA Program and the Practical Experience Mentor Program (Mentor Program). The three year Mentor Program provides a framework for developing and demonstrating practical workplace skills at a professional level, in the areas of accounting and / or finance, while being mentored by an approved mentor and documenting what they do at work."

Thanks . Hi INDOAUS I collected enough on CPA. NIA assessment wont be useful for CPA .I need to re do the whole process to become associate member of CPA. I am clear on that

But If I want to join in mentor program I suppose to be under paid employment for certain hours in OZ

Am I right?

I don't think you need to be in paid employment, so you are still eligible if you work for non-profit entity. Two of the main prerequisites are that you need to be employed in relevant accounting job and the mentor is a qualified CPA. There is a brochure about the mentor program, its on the CPA site but I can't remember the link. The brochure explain abut the various requirements to complete the mentor program and the registration procedures to become a mentee. PM your email and I'll forward it to you.
I am not sure if you already read (more information about mentoring) this but I'll paste the link for you to peruse:
