Default Electrician salary - average

My hubby is a spark and we were just wondering what the average salary is out in WA for a general electrician or a maintenance electrician. What sort of wage could he expect whilst training to get his WA licence etc etc.

Thank you in advance for any replies, any info would be great

My friends husband is a spark and has been unable to get anywork without his WA licence (3 months so far) - not even an interview. They said he didn't have enough proof to get his licence (he has been doing it for 15 years), so he is to sit a written exam and a practical test. If he doesn't pass that he will have to go to college for 3 months!!!!!

So, don't know how much he will earn, but i think his main problem may be getting the job in the first place!

Yes he does work with PLC's as his main role is maintenance in a factory enviroment rather than house bashing but can do that as well. Just wanted to get a rough idea really what to expect.

Thanks for your answers. xx

Mining Electricians are on between $100k to $120k, some of the mines are always struggling for sparkies but they are reluctant to set on anyone who has no mining experience.

Thanks for that krunchynut, I've seen some indication of wages on SEEK but wondered how typical they are.

My husband has a job waiting for him in Perth when we get there...contract's in place. He does exclusively HV industrial work. They've agreed to start him at $38/hr. It's less than he's making here in Canada, but then we've got to have a trade off somewhere for getting away from the 6-8 months of snow a year.

Hi there, in industry here nearly all sparks are dual trade being electrical AND instruments.
There was a post here some time back on this very topic when a industry trained spark couldn't get industry work here having no instrument ticket.

Just thought i'd point out this statement is bs. there are only about 350 dual trade sparks in WA according to energy safety

I don't have info for Perth, but as WA is coming down from its boom, I would imagine that any recent pay rates that may be quoted would be higher than currently attainable.

Here in QLD the 'minimum' Electrician grades pay rates are something like:

Grade 2 $615.50 pw
Electrical Worker Grade 2
- Electrical Tradespersons Assistant
 - Lines Clearance Operator

Grade 8 $782.40 pw
Electrical Worker Grade 8
- Electronic Tradesperson
- Refrigeration/Air-Conditioning Mechanic

http://www.wageline.qld.gov.au/award...ards&_id=E0040

I noticed that a 'purchasing clerk' in this industry is grade 3, ie: higher than an "Electrical Tradespersons Assistant".

Again not WA info but a similar situation as a factory electrical maintenance in SA.
I have just looked at last week report and my sparkies were getting between 1,400$ and 1,600$ gross weekly.
