Default thinking about moving to england

well.. since I couldn't find any website for us yanks living abroad, I figured that I would try here.

basically, me and my girlfriend are thinking about moving to England. it should not be a problem for us move, as her dad who lives here is still a British Citizen. I read the laws for me moving, and basically, her and our daughter could claim citizenship through the dad, and then we could get married after and I could get an IPL (intent of Permanent Leave), live in the UK for 3 years, then try for citizenship.

although I would hate this, we would need some government assistance when we first move there.. but would soon be off it.

I am almost finished with uni for teaching Spanish, and my girlfriend studies Nursing. As both (especially here in NY), are becoming hard to find jobs.

Are their many jobs available in those areas? What is the combined salary like compared to the cost of living somewhere in say.. Essex?

Basically any information would be helpful..

thanks

You may want to read about visas for you and your child at www.uk-yankee.com seeing as your GF is a UKC already (maybe)

racist? haha. i think you read it wrong.

there is always one to pull it out as soon as you say "black, paki, jew or muslim".

although if i said "all the catholics seem to get it....", guaranteed i wouldn't get the same response.

The term "Paki" isn't generally used as a term of affection.

it's shortened for a "pakistani".. you know kinda like i get called a "yank", or saying you "brits" instead of "you "british"

although, after reading that, i think we mite be on two different pages for the context of the word...

political correctness annoys me.

anyway.. back to the topic.. anyone have information on teachers???

I think you can rest assured that Americans who live in Britain get their snouts in the public trough and are able to successfully claim benefits - paid for by British taxpayers, including those of South Asian origin.
