N400 - Washington DC Oath Ceremony Process
For those N400 filers residing in Washington DC, the process if you are interested.
Your N400 interview will be in the Fairfax, Va office. They hold up to three oath ceremonies a day there and many go straight from interview to ceremony. Because you are a DC resident you have to take the oath in the US District Court, District of Columbia. They hold their oath ceremonies one day a month, normally the second Tuesday of every month.
You are told to report no later than 8:00am. There were 125 at my ceremony. It takes about 2 hours for the court to get you sitting in the order they want and then INS to check your invite to oath letter, including the questions on the back, your green card and make sure the certificate is correctly worded.
Ceremony starts at 10:00am, lasts about 45 minutes then a court sponsored "reception" - muffins and drinks.
Well organized and a big crowd.
Notes:
1. INS paid no real interest to the declarations on the back of the oath invite letter about travel outside the US, etc.
2. If you have guests do not have them arrive at 8:00am. Tell them to come at 9:45am.
3. Room 20 (6th floor) Court House on the corner of 3rd and Constitution. Enter off 3rd if you arrive before 8:00am, off Constitution if after 8:00am.
4. INS staff at interview in the Fairfax office/N400 interview were a much nicer than all INS I had met to this point.
Good luck with your paperwork.
