Default Dutch translation (of 1 sentence) please!

Hi there,

Who can tell me what: "krijg een enge ziekte" means?

Cheers

"Get a nasty disease"

And whoever says it usually means: I hope you get cancer.

Hi Toontje,

I should be grateful for your clarification, as the sentence I am asking about was asked as a *question*. (Just to clarify, I am Angela, the partner of John who has logged in on this forum - he suggested I ask you guys to see if we can solve this mystery).

I have had trouble signing into an old email account of mine (the first one I ever opened on hotmail, back in 2000).

For some reason hotmail is not recognising my email password - and it's the same password I've had for that account, ever since I opened it. (I mainly keep that old email account active, as it has messages from a very close friend who passed away in 2001).

So as my password is not being recognised, Hotmail has an option to "reset" my password if I answer a "secret question" about myself (which I can't even remember!)

And the question is: krijg een enge ziekte?

As I am an Aussie who doesn't speak Dutch, I don't understand the question.

When I opened that hotmail account back in 2000, however, I was dating a Dutch guy (who already had a hotmail account, and who helped me to open my one). So maybe that's why the question is in Dutch?

I have no idea how I am supposed to answer it.

I have tried answering "no", since I don't have cancer (or any other disease).

It's been over 8 years since my Dutch boyfriend and I split up. I can't imagine that he's somehow guessed my hotmail password (although I guess anything is possible!) In any event, we've both "moved on" since then, so can't see that he would have ANY motivation to hijack my account.

I would really appreciate any help in deciphering what the question means, and how I might answer it???

Many thanks
Angela

Are you 100% sure that you have the right email address? If a question pops up that you can't remember, my guess would be that you're asking for someone else's email.

Or, someone else did the same on your account and was able to answer or guess the answer to the question you'd set up. Possibly because they'd misremembered their own email.

I can suggest some possible answers but I don't think it's worth it - you'd be hacking into someone else's account. And anyway, Hotmail wipes the contents of your account after 3 months so nothing of yours will remain.
So, best to just open a new account.

You could also send an email to that address and ask them how long they've had it.

Possible answers:
nee bedankt
kanker
tiefus
pleuris
