Will my uk tv work in the usa??
Will my UK tv work in the USA? I know that we can get a step-up transformer to deal with the voltage difference, but can not find out if it will recieve a signal. On the back it states 50htz. If it will not recieve a straight singal would it work with a satellite reciever? Thanks for any info.

The short answer is:
"No".
The long answer is:
"While it might under certain circumstances be possible to get certain UK televisions to 'work' in the US by using appropriate voltage and standards converters, it would be a complicated and expensive exercise and the result probably wouldn't be what you wanted. More particularly, if you specifically need to ask whether it can be done then, no, you would not be able to make it work"
Just buy one when you get here.

But, question should be, is it a new tele? If it's brand new it might be worth it, probably still not...and it won't get over the air tele, cable/satellite would, but there's no scart connections over here....
Cost of shipping it over, be cheaper to buy a nice, decent sized flat screen new over here.

Wrong: To enable a 220-240V ac appliance (ie a UK appliance) to operate from a 110-120V ac source (ie a US source) will require a STEP UP transformer with a 2:1 STEP UP ratio.
All other advice is correct: scrap the UK TV and buy a US replacement when you get over here.

There's really no need of a TV over here. There is one decent TV channel, C-Span, but you'll probably be able to watch that over the internet while you're at work.

You will find that when you get over here, you will spend most of your TV watching time posting on forums like this one, asking where you can find UK TV shows for free on the internet.
The answer is UKNova.
