Default Surrendering PR card at the citizenship test?

I have just received a notice to appear at the citizenship test in Edmonton, October 29. The problem is that we are leaving Canada on December 8 for almost a month.

Questions:
- Will we be able to hold on to our PR cards after the exam and until we return again?
- What's the typical waiting time between exam and citizenship oath?

Thanks

Bart

Depends where you are. Where I am (Quebec) the test and ceremony were scheduled for the same morning. I did the test, handed it in and it was checked on the spot. I was asked then to hand over the PR card. I got the other card an hour or so later, after the ceremony.

I cannot believe they'd take the PR card off you if you weren't going to get the other one straight away.

They take your PR card of you when you go to take the oath not when you take the test. You do need to bring the card to the test but they give it straight back. In my case they time between the test and the oath was just under 2 months (this was in Toronto btw).

By which time you'd forgotten everything you'd learned for the test.

Mind you I don't think I'd do very well on a British Citizenship test.

(BTW BartM good luck with the test)
