Can a British Citizen on Canadian Residency work in the US?
I am a British citizen and am living as a permanent resident in Canada. I want to move to the US.
Do I have to go on a J1 or a B1? If I have Canadian Citizenship (which will happen in about 190 days), can i then travel and work freely in the US? I am an RN and Social Worker - will this aid my application? And finally, if granted a long term visa for the US, how do you go about getting permanent residency?

Your Canadian PR doesn't let you live in the U.S.
Canadian citizenship doesn't give you any right to live in the U.S. either. The only advantages are that the requirement to have a visa stamp in your passport usually isn't there (but you still must meet the usual rules) and there is the special NAFTA (TN) status available.
If you leave Canada without becoming a citizen, a. you can lose your permanent resident status, and b. even if that doesn't happen, you may have a long wait for citizenship when you return.

There is an article in the wiki that explains the ways in; look for "Pulaski's Ways".

Apart from that others have said you will need to apply for licensure to be a RN in the US meet requirements for foreign trained nurse and pass NCLEX. If not a citizen of Canada then looking at several years as the US has been under retrogression for 2 years

Yes exactly what I meant. Nurses who can not avail with another visa ie TN or E3 then they are looking at several years due to retrogression.

Yah... not with a TN visa... won't happen. However, the TN visa - unlike some other visas - can be renewed indefinitely... so it's a lot like being a PR! Who knows... make the OP will find a nice US guy and get married. That's sure to get her a GC.
