Default Have you taken a new motorcycle to Nova Scotia?

Has anyone taken a newish bike with them? What is involved? My partner has a Triumph Daytona 955i with 1500 miles on it .. 4 years old though! It would be great to take it with us.

Anyone done this?

Thank you

Claire

I think the general consensus is that it's virtually impossible. There was a thread a while ago which seems to sum up the despondency - "oh well, I'll sell it then."

My OH had a similar problem - had a triumph thruxton but he couldn't take it over, even though he can buy the exact same bike over here (only difference being speedo and maybe front lights). Can't import any bike/car less than 15 years old - believe me he looked into all avenues! I think you might be able to do it if you strip it right down, ship it as parts and then put it back together again - but i don't know how you then go about registering it and so on!

G actually sold his motorbike before coming out. I'm sure if you can ship cars, you can ship motorbikes however, listening to both G&A & Maureen's stories (both American cars) about trying to get their cars registered, inspected, and all of the red tape that was involved, it was a long, tedious process in both cases-I would strongly advise to just buy another bike upon arrival.

Just got this back - seems people are correct - it's not doable! sorry couldn't be more help!

Yes well hmmm, I have just spent a good portion of my day trying to find reasonable insurance for my Mummies Day pressie. I was getting quotes that were higher than my teen years and quotes insisting I provide proof of safety training within the last 3 years (which I don't have but may do a course if it reduces the insurance). I called hubby and said we should forget the whole dealy for now as I was getting stressed. A little while later he showed up at work. he had managed to talk to our usual insurers and they listened to him and provided third party fire and theft type insurance for $400. The bike is a 1994 GSX-R 750. Initially the women in the insurance office cringed and said oh no not a sports bike, it'll be expensive, the age of the bike brought the price down.

If you are thinking of biking when you get here, bring your kit, I didn't bring mine or daughters bash hats or gloves or boots (did bring leathers though). Just went to local dealers for a bash hat - they have a huge winter clearance sale on - thank god. I couldn't see a shoei for under $500, Sharks ranged from $350 to $1000. AND that was sale prices. Also size xs is very hard to get. I have ended up getting a brand I have never heard of for now for not very much money.

We've left OH Shoei that was only a few months old in the shed. Should have brought it as hand luggage.

The pretty pink one with flowers on I was trying on yesterday was $569 - in the sale I sold my shark and daughters helmet (I think was shoei) for about 30 quid. Oh the things we learn.........
