Question Uk Mobile Internet ... short term

I have to nip back to the uk, and will be taking a laptop with me, or 2 as my son is coming back with me.

Whats the easiest fastest, cheapest means of getting internet access, for the lappies.. for a period of 7 days.

I due to circumstance will not have the opportunity to use Internet Cafe etc...

Has to be a mobile connection, and if so how, what who where...

or direct telephone (hard wired ) connection, dial up or faster.. for a period of 7 days ( ish )

Any Suggestions ?

Ste ,

Sorry to hear about your news mate

When we were in oz in may last year I used my mobile phone for internet access via gprs.........it's slow and bloody expensive.....

I have seen laptop cards for internet access but you need to take out a monthly subscription for them..........basically like a mobile phone contract..........so probably not worth your while.

Sorry mate.......but other than the expensive mobile phone option...........I dunno

Mark

Looks like all of the Texaco petrol stations have wireless, one in Coundon and one on A45, Also McDonalds, I guess you can buy a block of time???

Others all seem to be pubs and hotels.

Sorry about your situation, these things always happen at the worst times.

Cheers mate.

Well funnily enough, I wont be far from the Texaco on Holyhead Road/ Grayswood Ave... ( think it was Texaco anyway )

Will be staying in MIL's house which is 2 streets back from Holyhead Road.

How does it work, we have a network wireless card thing ( pmcia ) stick for laptop... but never used it?

I noticed most of those wifi links are for pubs lol

Oh how coventry has changed

I am planning to buy a 3 pay as you go usb dongle thingie when I go next - I go over regularly enough that I would just keep it at my mum's place and top up every visit. It's going to be a bit of a costly way to do it with upfront L99 plus whatever it costs for the sim card. It might be time to go back to using the phone! You can cram an awful lot into a double sms!

yer kinda thought of that, and if it was just for email, then son has a carlos fandango mobile.. also blackberry... look cool. but then i hate fones !!

I would have thought, that a simple mobile fone connection, via USB to pc.. would or could act as a mobile modem ?

You can do his but is usually quite expensive, unless you have the correct UK tariff for it, but thats a 12 month subscrition, or even 18 months now....
