Dry Suburbs - Melbourne
The alcohol kind not the rain kind before your start on about Melbourne's weather!
I read a comment somewhere that some suburbs are 'dry' is this true?! And if so does this mean no drinking in public outside spaces or does it include restaurants etc?

I seem to recall that Box Hill is one? Or somewhere around there.
I know that Barwon Heads is....that's a little way away though.

I used to live in the dry suburb of Surrey Hills- it goes as far over as the Canterbury side of the Burke Road in Camberwell. Not sure how far up it stretches.

A City, within Melbourne is a municipality or a collection of suburbs. Here is a List of Melbourne suburbs and their municipalities (on Wikipedia, my next stop after Google). These 'cities' confused the heck out of me when I first got here!
There's a short section on Australia in the Wikipedia article on Prohibition and an associated news article of drinking in Boroondara for those interested in such things.

Thanks for the links Johnsyweb. I'm not sure I'm entirely comfortable living in a dry suburb, so I might have to try and find a list somewhere.
