Default Claiming UK tax back

I know it's been asked a million times but when it comes to claiming tax back do I need the P85 form or can I just phone the tax office and sort it all out with them (which I've done before but I wasn't leaving the country, I just wasn't working at the time)?

Thanks
Laura

A friend of ours works at the tax office. I didn't realise you could claim back until he said. Unfortunately you do need to send the form off, as you have to include your P60 with it.

Hope this helps.

Good news is that at least they will pay electronically into bank, so no hassle cashing cheques once out of country.

I claimed mine back with my p45 and a form from the internet (from the inland revenue site), it took about two months but I got my cheque last week, with a letter stating what my new tax code was

If you were employed for part of the tax year in which you are leaving the country, you need P85.

Download it here: http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/cnr/p85.pdf

I wasn't aware that you could claim tax back. Is there any further information on this anywhere that you could direct me to?

Never mind, I found some information myself doing a search...

we're leaving at end of March so won't get a thing buy the looks of things....
