Default Adapting to the new life in Canada

We thought we would drop you all a note to let you know how we are doing since the big move.

All went really well through the immigration and customs, it only took us about an hour, so we were pleased with that. No problems whatsoever.

So, we have now been here for almost 2 weeks now and have done a great deal e.g. drivers licence, health insurance etc. We are currently living with my cousin in Cambridge and it is great, but truth be told we need our own place. We have bought ourselves 2 cars, the girls new bikes and on Friday past we bought ourselves a lovely detached house and move in on 28th September.

We had already set up our bank account with RBC a couple of months ago so that was all okay when we met up with them again. We are getting issued with visa cards (mainly for credit) opened a savings account, very straightforward, as was the morgage with RBC.

The hubby starts his new job Monday 10th and is getting pretty nervous about that, but he will be okay. I am going to join an agency next week to see what is what, basically just to get my feet in the door as they say. My oldest started school in Grade 4/5 and loves it. My other daughter started day care twice a week and also loves it. They are settling in really well.

But this weather is a killer, na only joking.

Suzyanne/Louise33 I hope all is well with you and your families and are also settling in well.

Welcome, Looks like you've arrived just in time for the last of the warm weather.

When I arrived in April, I was told it was warming up, so I didn't bring my extra warm clothes. It turned out it was a false dawn and the weather plummeted to -17!!!

Thanks, finding the weather pretty exhausting, I have to say I am looking forward to it getting a little cooler - yes I probably will regret writing this.

How are you enjoying staying here? Where about in Waterloo are you staying?

We're renting a place a short walk from Waterloo town centre (if you can call a single street that).

My wife has struggled with the heat over the summer (no air conditioning) and it didn't help when we lost one of the dogs with heatstroke.

I've found it OK so far, but I think it will take time to get used to the Canadian way of things.

bunnett, you have the male thingy. You have a husband. You are both gay with adopted children? Either that or this forum is confusing.

Do you really find it that bad? I guess I sit in my air conditioned ivory tower all day so it doesn't bother me at all.

Oh and yes- you will eat your words come next Jan / Feb.

But remember- there's no such thing as bad weather- only bad clothing. (ancient Finnish Proverb)
