Hi all
We await our 495 temporary visa (with baited breath).
My question relates to my mother-in-law who has now belatedly decided that she would like to join us in Australia (she was not included in the original application). She is widowed and my wife is her only child. She is also retired with sufficient means to support herself for the rest of her life (unless she lives to be 200).
I note that the parent visa (103) applies only when the child is a permanent resident (which we would not be under the 495).
So it seems my mother-in-law can only apply to migrate once we obtain permanent residency ourselves? What are her options while we are on the 495 visa - will she have to rely on a succession of tourist visas to be with us?
Thanks for any advice,
Greg

You would need to be PR to sponsor but the requirement is that you are 'settled in Australia' which usually means 2 years.....temporary visas may count towards that.
You would need 2 years tax returns to act as assurer unless someone else does it.
Tourist visas are not a reliable way of staying in Australia and DIAC may refuse entry at any time...be careful. It may be possible to spend a lot of time on a tourist or visitor visa and there may be loopholes but you would need to discuss that with an agent.
