Anyone used immigration specialists in Calgary?
Hi, everyone
We've just had the bad news that our PR application might not be looked at until Feb 2007 (we submitted it Sept 2004), like many other Brits we want to move now, so we are considering using an immigration specialist, we have found one who says he will guarantee a job offer on the PNP programme. does anyone have any experience using people like these? I would appreciate it if anyone could recommend a specialist in Calgary as the one we're in contact with at the moment is in BC.
Thanks

hi jackie
We are using (hand in hand immigration) they are sorting a job offer out for my husband who is a truck driver in Cornwall, they are excellent, always at the end of the phone if i have a worry or a problem, day or night.
We have got buyers for our house, hubby having medical next week, going to Alberta in 3-4 weeks to look around and job interviews, schools, bank accounts etc. can't wait.

We used them too, just to check our application before sending it. They are in Guildford though, not Calgary! They do have links with a realtor/relocation guy over here though. (We didn't use him, and I forget his name now .... it'll come back to me when I press send ... oh yes, Warren? Warren Green?? We used Canilink, but not to find jobs, we did that ourselves ).

Hi, Thanks for the reply. We've decided to use Warren Green, he was recommended by a couple of people, and he's promised to get Ian a job offer and work permit in 4-6 weeks, which will work out great for us because being anxious we'd booked our flights for May thinking our resident visa would be through and we've sold our house and have to be out 13th April, so hopefully Warren will do all he can for us and we'll be living in our new house in Chestermere, this is a beautiful place and as with nearly all new communities is centred round a huge lake with plenty of water sports. GOOD LUCK on your trip next week.

Re: Anyone used immigration specialists in Calgary?
Hi Jackie,
I moved from London to Vancouver last year and had nothing but problems with an immigration company. I ended up doing the immigration paperwork myself, used a company called Moving to Vancouver (www.movingtovancouver.ca) to help out with recommendations on area to live/kids school etc and then found work myself when I arrived in Vancouver.
I'm a bit sceptical about companies who promise to find you a job or place to live that can also manage your immigration as well, 2 very different areas of expertise.
William

Re: Anyone used immigration specialists in Calgary?
Just jumping on the Warren/Stuart bandwagon - we are using both Warren Green and Stuart Bennett from Hand In Hand. We've been liaising with them since Emigrate Sandown in October and Warren found my husband a job within a week of our submitting his resume/portfolio. He then arranged for this to be approved (AEO) which we received in January and our application for permanent residency was submitted by Stuart shortly afterwards. We are hoping to be moving to Calgary in the summer and will be going out for a fact finding trip first week of May and also hoping that Warren will be showing us around, looking at possible areas, types of houses, schools etc. So far, can't fault either Warren or Stuart in their helpfulness and speed of response and they do appear to be coming up with the goods. Obviously it's more expensive to go this route, but at least it saves you the legwork and for us that was worth the money.
Good luck - hope it works out for all of us!

Hi, We live in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, you sound like your in a similar position to us, we're also not taking much with us, we are going to TRY and be minimalists.
Yes, we've been to Calgary 3 times in the last 18 months, we looked around all the communities, and settled for Rainbow Falls, at Chestermere, about 25 minutes drive from Calgary airport - handy for visitors! Our new house is in the process of being built and should be ready for 1st June, we have friends there who have been taking photo', its really exciting, but seems strange not being able to see it for ourselves. The good thing about Chestermere is the schools have to offer your child a place in the nearest school to their home, but if you are within Calgary City limits your kids may be bused into the city, we didn't want this as our son is only 8 never goes on buses with me let a lone have to go on his own.
Good Luck![

It all depends what your budget and lifestyle expectations are.....All the surrounding small towns outside of Calgary are pretty decent places to live...However if you want an acreage then try Bearspaw, or if you are after some larger plots to build your mansion on try Cochrane lake area...I think it's called Monterra. You may wish to settle in Calgary, and if you get hold of a City map, I think that you'll find building sites in most areas of the City....I can't really comment on what areas to avoid in Calgary, as I don't know too much about them, and I wouldn't like to offend anyone with my opinion either.
The only thing I would say is don't get sucked in with the showhomes....Anyway good luck with the trip.
