Default Hardship -- the Hake scale

Hi:

There are often posts on how to do a "hardship letter" for an I-601. These postings often show an [understandable] ignorance of what is required and how to approach such waivers. Also, unfortunately, most immigration laywers don't know how to do one.

One of the finest immigration lawyers in the US, Bruce Hake, specializes in "J-1" waivers. He is MY "maven" on such issues. J-1 waivers are often based upon "hardship." The following is a link to an exceprt from an article written by Bruce and his "scale" of what is needed.
