Easter usually turns the sunshine coast into tourist mecca anywhere near a beach, so we decided to get off the beaten track without wanting to drive for hours.
What a place! Kenilworth, its a small town about an hour inland population 300! green mountains, acres of cows, fields, running creeks and streams, camping from $1.50! a night, small pub, little museum with the towns 150 year history, the guy running it was a born and bred local about 80, white shirt braces and driving his 1960 original immaculate falcon car!, winery, and a cheese factory where you can eat and buy as much cheese/yogurt as you want, would rival any of the quality UK/french stuff too. Well worth a weekend out there, a bit like going back in time and hardly a car in sight traffic wise. Locals did warn they get a frost in winter tho, cant wait will go back and enjoy a white snap ![]() Found this website loads of useful info on it for anyone planning a visit, www.kenilworth.org.au

Hi there
Can you tell me which campsite it was. Love decent cheese. If you have time to go a bit further afield and want a bit of frost, try the Bunya Mountains - approx 2 1/2 hours from Sunshine Coast. We went out of season last year (first week feb) and got the most magnificent cabin for $50 per night for the 2 of us. Wallabies, roos etc running wild all around. They reckon it's REALLY cold if you go June/July August. The cottages have log fires/wood burners etc. We didn't usre the car in 3 days. Just brill. Check out www.bunyamountains.com.au Sunshine Sarah |

I don't know where the $1.50 option is (may be Kenilworth Homestead) but there is free camping (with basic facilities) at Gheerulla Creek on the Maleny-Kenilworth Road and at Obi-Obi Creek crossing no.2 on the Obi-Obi Road out of Kenilworth.

) if he remembers. The cheese factory is very easy to find go through the main street and its opposite a park, lots of signs. If anyone wants a trip without driving far, there is an amazing place in the centre of buderim, go off the main street down into the street where the PO is, just after that on your right, (sorry I never remember place steet names ) there is a tourist type road sign that says falls or tourist drive, about one klm down there you can park and there are totally amazing rock pools you can swim in, waterfalls, pure rainforest and if no one else is around you see wildlife. There are barbies at the top, but you cant take dogs all protected species and froggy things etc. Just looked it up the names Bridalveil Court.

I think you mean Buderim Forest Park...? You can also do the walk from Lindsay Road - Harry's Lane (where posh Harry's restaurant is).
I agree - fabulous walk. Just don't forget to wear that mozzie repellant in there folks - any time of day! Sunshine Sarah |
