Hi all,
I am moving to France as a transfer by my current employer
I have been told that I can continue to pay NI in the UK and just pay french income tax, which is great financially
but I am unsure of where that leaves me as far as medical cover etc is concerned, some people tend to think that as I pay NI in a European country I would be entitled to the same health cover as a french man and I would be working under French law but others have said that I would continue to work as an english worker (ie English employement law and I could not get French medical treatment without paying for it
). The company offers a Mutual medical policy but I am not sure if I can join whilst paying UK national insurance
If anyone out there has been through this and can advice me then I am all ears
Thanks

okay
I might need correcting here?
if you continue to pay UK NI, then when you leave the Uk they should issue you with an E224 (i think) that transferres your NI to france, but remains paid for by the UK.
other insurance, is not a problem, you can take out cover with another Mutual, and they will normally pay the difference the uk wont.
ie, your private mutual will re-embourse you 100% of medications, where as the Uk will only pay 35%. They work together one picking up the shortfalls in the other.
your company are offering you a private insurance, that would perhaps mean private hospital room, and as above ensure the entire amount paid is covered.
I have argued myself when i visit the doctor and pay €20 why do i only get €15 refunded??? uk ... covers very little from your NI it seems? I have recieved a bill from a hospital for €120?? the remainder from a twisted ankle incident, the Uk paid ONLY 10% of the costs!!!!!!!!!!!! :scared:
you wil need to find a doctor quite fast, as you now have to register your nominated doctor, or you may not get a full refund by visiting another.
