China:Guangzhou, great wall, snow - January

My wife is likely to be working at the South China Normal University from
September to January. I and 2 teenage children could probably visit her in
January and do a tourist thing.
I presume we would mainly see things and take in the area around Guangzhou.
My questions are:
- ideally I'd like to take in the Great Wall and Terra-Cotta Warriors.
Possible / practical at that time (winter)- if so, where?
- see snow without drowning in it and take in other sights of note? Don't
want skiing, just snow that isn't metres deep!
Any other suggestions most welcome.
TIA

I was at the Great Wall at Simatai and Xi'an to during the winter just over a
year ago. It was damn cold, but do-able. One of the benifits was that I was
the only person on the wall! I could look all the way to the horizon and see
no one. I froze my pants off, but it was worth it. Simatai is incredible. To
see some photos and how I got there see here:

About Xi'an and the soldiers etc is here:

Have fun! See the hot springs near Xi'an. SPEND A FULL DAY at least at the
Summer Palace in Beijing. It is huge and incredible. The big lake will be
frozen and you can slide around on it in these little sled looking things with
skates on the bottom and two ice picks to scoot you along.
