Hi All,

My cousin is sponsoring and assuring us. I offered to put the money up for the bond. Is that legal, though it will be held in his name?.

thanks in advance.

My uncle is doing the same for us and we will just telephone transfer some money into his account so he can do it, I don't think they care where the money is coming from as long as they get it, but obviously this is not legal advice just what we are gonna do, I don't think you need to worry about this at all but somebody else may know different.

I am not a professional either, but we too did this. I believe, as long as it APPEARS to be coming from your sponsor that is all that matters!

Yes, it's legal. They don't care where the money comes from.

However:
- if you did claim welfare (difficult in the first 2 years) and the
bond was not enough, Centrelink could chase your cousin for the
excess.

- the bond will be refunded to your cousin, and it's up to him to give
it back to you or not.
