Default Accountants from UK to Canada - Where are Us?

Any ACCA qualified accountant moved from London (UK ) to Canada? What are your experiences please and how are things now? Getting quite scared now by all these tales of woes regarding employment in Canada as I am looking to relocate in April 2010.

sorry can't help, but this is a thread i'm very interested in. we're in the same boat, hubby is a CA.

must be honest, things don't look too rosy at the moment... unless you're prepared to accept a more junior role and a paycut, if you're lucky enough to find a job, that is.

fingers crossed it works out beautifully for all of us hoping to relocate :0)

Where are you heading to, and what kind of experience do you have?

Regardless of the above you should do the convert your ACCA to the CGA designation.

KK, (and Sparkly)

In addition to the PM I sent you previously. Give these guys a call/email, (at least) one of the recruiters is a (fairly) recent Brit immigrant.

KK, Butch is no longer I'm afraid... banned for life.
Good luck with the landing and new life in Canada. I hope everything goes to plan. If you have tips to share, please do. We will be in the same boat hopefully later this year, and my mr fluff is also an accountant.

I'm in the same boat - hoping to move May to Vancouver. V scared by the job market as well but am coming to Canada for the experience not a huge career move so willing to take a pay cut etc and have some savings...

I'm ACA, been told to play up the IFRS experience that i have as Canadians are converting next year.

Not done anything about converting to CGA - heard you can only do it once a year in October in the UK so already missed the boat? (somebody may correct me here!)

Again AFAIK, you can do the conversion from ACCA to CGA at any time.
