I don't know if you fit into this category "Visitors to Ireland who have owned their vehicles abroad for more than 6 months and who will be resident here temporarily". I guess by not registering your car, you will effectively evade VRT.

As for me, I bought a second hand car (first registered new in Oct 2006) from a dealer on 19 Feb 2007. So that I don't have to pay VRT, I intend to make the move after the bank holiday in August, around 28 Aug. I really hope that 6 months, 9 days will be enough to exempt me from VRT; will it?
