This kind of thing is a thing of the past then Tim?

I saw a BBC programme a year or so ago showing the huge risks of buying property in the North regarding title etc. Is this no longer an issue?

Its still an issue. If your buying a property, you need to do a lot of research into the land ownership. To avoid all the hassle, its best to rent.

Yes I guessed that, just that I was being given the impression that all was well now with property purchase in the North.

Hi, (to Tim10) i saw your post about contacting you with any questions. I want to move to Kyrenia first on a temp. basis, renting long term ( a year first)by renting out my own property here in Preston Lancs. I have researched but have so many questions. As a woman on my own (retired) I would appreciate it if I could pester you with my queries, as I am unable to find certain things (like getting internet using wi-fi/tv/what mobile to get/ getting around/cost of living etc

You'll see from my posting that I have quoted Tim10 not you. Try doing a google on Tim10 and Kyrenia and see what comes up.

Best of luck with your retirement move Suzie. Cyprus is a beautiful country though I've not been there for some years. Many years ago I lived in North London in the 70s and so many Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot refugees - all very nice people and they all got on with each other.

Hope the drought problem gets resolved soon. Problems in the world everywhere!

as for the Orrms ...an isolated case .......can u honestly say that the homes u own in the south dont really belong to a poor TURK who UNLIKE theGREEK would not have been offered compensation ........
i love the north ...only go for vacation at the mo but hope to live there one day....and would never ever swap to the south ........and yes do have personal experiance of both !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Err ... well, as I understand it the North used to belong to Greece. Much of the land in Northern Cyprus belongs to Greeks in the South but of course they cant claim it.
What happens (I know, its unlikely) if the Turks give back Northern Cyprus to gain access to the EU? Could be interesting.

Ahh yes, but it was the Turks that were the aggressor and invaded Cyprus iirc . They expelled all the Greek Cypriots from their land, hence the ongoing claims. Anyways, thats for another thread I guess

As I understood it from a Cypriot refugee friend, big difference between Turks from Turkey and Cypriot Turks from Cyprus. The Cypriots, both Greek and Turkish, got on pretty well on the island (before the 70s) THEN the Turks from Turkey came on their visit. Though understand (looking on the other side of the coin) that Greece interfered a little too. Such a pity it can't get resolved on the island. Yes, would be interesting if Turkey gets to join the EU - that'll be a big puzzle to solve in the North.
