No shortage in the New York/New Jersey metropolitan area. My mom is a teacher and she's very happy she has tenure because of the layoffs. My friend in Long Iand can only get substitute teaching jobs because there are no permanent ones available. They are having larger class sizes so they will have to hirer less teachers. Also in certain states you need a masters degree as well.

Thanks all, we have seen a lawyer and will be getting married.
There are teacher shortages in 10 states in particular areas and some states are hiring from overseas.
I enjoyed your responses.

Congratulations on your impending marriage.

Hope the lawyer mentioned - after you get married and submit the paperwork, you will not be work authorized for approx. 90 days.

Let us know where you end up

Remarkable how often a trip to the immigration lawyer accelerates wedding plans

Bear in mind that those "particular areas" aren't short of teachers because there are no membership openings at the country club.

Good luck to you both.
