Problems

Re: Problems
My own experience in Queensland, Australia, similar heat to some parts of Philippines, made me get used to fans instead of Air Con, with much lower electric bills.
You could save a few thousand peso per month. My bills in a condo, in Cebu, with air con were about 7,000 pm. They are now about 2,000 without aircon.

Yes indeed.
Fans are the way to go for reducing those pesky electric bills.

Re: Problems
Health Care is what will cost you. And - together with the booze - do for you in the end. Better to stay somewhere nice, like Scarborough !

Re: Problems
Medical costs even without Phil Health are a fraction of what it would costs in the UK if you had to pay for it yourself.
Alcohol is far cheaper than than the Uk so drink moderately and use the savings on alcohol to fund the hospital.

Re: Problems
There was a perfectly good pension system in operation. It was called SERPS. The neoliberal economists under Maggie T scrapped it.

Re: Problems
Just because "In April 2002, under Tony Blair, SERPS was changed to the State Second Pension" doesn't really alter what the current pension is today.
Was there much of change with the 2002 change of name ?
The change under Margaret Thatcher was: "The scheme changed in 1988 when Margaret Thatcher allowed workers to contract out, if they wished and be able to divert some of their NI contributions into a personal pension scheme. This obviously meant a lower SERPS payout on retirement, but an additional one from their private pension."

Some of us think without trying to politicize every thought. Posts that you referred to are nothing to do with your last two posts.
As already pointed out whether you get your pension from SERPS or a Private provider that you contracted out to makes little difference except by the name you choose to call the schemes.
Bottom line is you either have adequate pension planning to secure an income in retirement no matter where you choose to live, or you do not.
Should you be looking to plan and still have the years ahead to do so, then its up to you to select the best plan for you.
I was heavily involved in the pension industry and completed a lot of contracting out that was suitable for people at that time. Yet one thing came home time and time again was that too many saw retirement planning as a 100% government responsibility and very little to do with their own responsibility.
we reap what we sow
I am contracted out and will be enjoying those benefits some years down the line as am too young and beautiful to get those benefits now
