Australia to Ireland. Working Life Credits
Do my Australian working life credits continue if I work in Ireland until I retire?

Re: Australia to Ireland.
Sorry pollyana, it's called AWLR Australian working life residence. Iv'e emailed the relevant body in oz but they haven't replied. I had a look at an Irish site that said something about being able to continue your credits as they have an agreement with Australia. I'm wondering if what they refer to as credits are what we term residence, just wondered if anyone has encountered this.

Having googled it, it looks like you can only count days outside Australia if you are an Australian resident. If you are living and working in Ireland then I wouldn't have thought it would count. Maybe if you are only there for a short while and maintain a home etc in Aus, but otherwise I can't see how it would work.

I think you might get a better answer though if I move the thread to the Aus forum? There are several people in there who are up on welfare/benefits more than I am! Let me know if you are happy for me to move it

Re: Australia to Ireland. Working Life Credits
We are in our 60s and are contemplating retiring to Ireland. It is my understanding there is a reciprocal agreement between Australian and Ireland so I cannot see there will be any difficulty. From my investigations, even though I am not quite 65 I could go to Ireland live there and when I turn 65 apply for my Australian pension without any problem so it sounds to me your working life in Oz must go towards your retirement. surely? I believe the time worked in Australia is counted.

It sounds the OP is asking about getting credits for working in Ireland, not in Australia - as least thats how I understood it.

But if there is a reciprocal agreement wouldn't it work both ways?

Do you know of such an agreement, and if so can you post the link for the OP - and anyone else who might be interested.
