Default Updates on Marriott Ihilani?

We are extending husband's business trip - 4 nights Waikiki & 4 nights
at the Ihilani. We usually stay at the Kea Lani on Maui & add another
island - Orchid on Big Island or Manele Bay on Lanai, but not that
much time this trip & want to use those Marriott points! We'll have
our 12 year old with us. Any updates on hotel service, the water park
I heard is close by, restaurants at the hotel or in the area, how
REALLY is the snorkeling? Any & All info much appreciated!

When I was there about two years, the hotel service was excellent.

I don't know if it will be open by the time you arrive, but Roy Yamaguchi
will be taking over the operations of the restaurant at the golf club house
at Ko Olina. (Ihilani is the name of the hotel; Ko Olina the name of the
resort it's in.) So if you like Roy's, you'll maybe want to try that.

One of the top luaus (maybe Germaine's?) on Oahu is located next door to the
hotel.

It's been a long time since I've had to think about pre-teen activities and
Ihilani is not a kid kind of place (though they might have a special summer
program in place.) How about boogie boarding? Kids seem to like to ride the
small waves that break on the shore. I'd ask the hotel if they have boogie
boards available for guests; otherwise I'd stop on the way to the hotel at a
Walmart or K-Mart and buy him one.

Other possibilities in addition to Hawaiian Waters (the water park):

A trip to the North Shore especially if the waves are real big at Waimea Bay
or if there's a surf meet.

Tour of Arizona Memorial/ USS Missouri

There's a maze some place nearby Ko Olina that might appeal to a 12 year
old.
