Spanish Banks enter 21 century
My bank contacted me about a new account. It has no charges no minimum balance, free credit and debit cards and pays interest.I of course looked through all the small print for the catch but.......there wasn't one. It's the EVO account with Nova Galicia.BTW Neither I nor any of my friends family or pets work for the bank, just thought it might be of interest to the members

UK retail banks have never made any money, they are a loss leader for the rest of the banks activities; mortgages and investment banking etc
Don't forget that half the UK banks went bankrupt in 2008 so they are not the model to follow

I dont know why an account like that is "entering the 21st Century". Such accounts lose the banks money, I wouldnt trust the bank offering that in Spain, especially if it is a Caja, it must be desperate

Most (if not all?) UK banks make very healthy profits on their retail banking activities, e.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5uvUJRs4M5w
It was their other activities which resulted in the financial meltdown in 2007.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1cV-R...eature=related

I think cricketman might like paying banks money. The Spanish retail banks are rapacious moneygrabbing bastards up to the UK banks, none of which have left any of their customers wanting due to failure. I am constantly amazed at the charges Spanish people have to bear from their banks, I have just been informed of charges on our two debit cards from La Caixa - over 20 Euros each. UK bank charges on debit cards? Nada.

I've been with them for quite a few years now and pay no charges for my Debit card, I'm charged 20 Euros on my statement but it's instantly refunded.
