Sharjah offer, advice welcomed ...
Hoping some of you can give me some tips on Sharjah.
As I understand it, it is the most conservative of the Emirates
Female, single & offered a post there rather than in Abu Dhabi where I thought it was going to be.
What should I be aware of?
Can I possibly live in Dubai & commute or is that out of the question?
Public transport? I have a monthly transport allowance of a little over 1,000AED ... what would you suggest?
Any tips, pointers, most appreciated
Thanks

It's famous for:
- Being a shit hole
- Being dry
- Where Subcontinentals are always jumping off balconies, being killed in apartment fires or generally dying of other causes

Seriously, don't take it. If you were a single man then maybe but definitely not a single woman. It's been widely reported that Landlords in Sharjah are even refusing to allow single women to become tenants. Public transport in Sharjah is awful...and commuting from Dubai is impractical for a single woman unless you can afford your own car.

Thanks for your all of your advice
Am re-researching things ...
Would living in Midrif, Dubai be feasible or just plain stupid?
If I work in Sharjah & lived in Dubai ... I might find a way around this, but not sure of a) public transport and/or b) commuting alone in a vehicle
Does anyone have ideas of how much car leasing starts from on a monthly basis?
Thanks again!

hmmm... Mirdiff to Sharjah isn't very far. It's about 15 mins on the Emirates Road however you will have to negotiate the National Paints roundabout which is not for the faint hearted!

You can get a Lancer(ghini) for 1550 a month. That's the cheapest I found and it was shit, but fine.
Mirdiff is alright too, some nice places to live and cheap as chips, just look for the flight path.
