Hello,
I am applying for a J-1 student visa. When I filled in my DS-160, in the previous education section it said to list secondary education. I put down the school I went to from 14-18 but not the one I went from 11-14 (since I didn't think it really counted towards secondary at the time). I submitted the DS-160 form thinking little of this and made an interview appointment (on this Tuesday). Later, after reading a section about education (which was not in the DS-160 FAQ I was looking at), I find that I probably should have put the 11-14 middle school in previous education. I also find that failure to properly fill in education history is a common problem in visa applications. Does it matter that I have not put down my middle school for education? I have tried looking online for what to do in such a situation, but the responses have varied. Sometimes it is suggested to fill in and submit a new DS-160 with the correct information and it won't matter that the number is different for the interview. But I have also heard that submitting a new DS-160 will mean that a new appointment is necessary. Even if it does matter, is there any way that I would be able to correct this during or after the interview process if necessary? I know all the information that would be required to fill in for this school. I just hope that I won't have to go to another interview because of this. |

I don't know a lot about this specific visa type, but in general I wouldn't submit anything that isn't asked for. Unless they request further information from you, don't send in another form. If the question comes up at interview, I don't see any reason the information couldn't be added to the form then. |

They're quite handy things, actually... red ones can be useful for making corrections! ![]() Ian

Thanks guys. Interview seemed to go fine yesterday, they asked surprisingly little. Now just have to wait for the stuff to be delivered back. How long does this take exactly (I can't seem to be able to track it yet)?

Exactly? Sorry, but that's an impossible question to answer. It might take 3-5 days... or 5-8 days... or 7-14 days... or longer... and, how long it took someone else bears no correlation to how long it'll take you.
