I agree. I was talking with the agents in our apartment complex last week who were telling me that there is 100% occupancy at present so they have just changed their policy so that all new leases are 30 days notice in writing when the tenant wishes to leave.

It could be simply high demand that is now requiring a full security deposit (often a month's rent) to hold an apartment. We've moved 3 times in the last 8 years and have always signed a lease within a week or 2 putting down a small deposit, but that may have changed here since we haven't moved in the last 4 years but can see the high demand as evidenced by the number of new apartment complexes being built.
