Title says it all really!
Can we, as British People from Birth with British Passports take the IELTS test to gain extra points?

Yes you can, we have looked into this. In fact it was necessary for my OH to take it to get the points! Though we have now decided to go down the State Sponsorship route as you will not need the extra points and therefore do not need to take the test

Too late to join your thread, but yes you can! I did the IELTS to gain an extra 10 points, but unfortunately didn't pay £105, I paid £185 as I'd to do it in the south of Ireland and had to pay for a euro banker's draft! Nightmare! Do study though, I got a study guide off Amazon by Peter May, well worth the money as I got 9, 9, 9 and 8.5 in the exam, luckily!

Just out of interest, what kinda things does it involve? Was surprised to read that you can purchase books on it?
I imagined it to be more listening and verbal test, but obviously not?

Reading - each section gets progressively harder and harder, true/false/not given often being the response required to some of the questions, so it's quite ambiguous!
Writing - an essay and a letter, the essay carries more points
Listening - lots of conversations etc - nothing is repeated so if u miss something, then OOPSIES!!! Thus doing practice papers is very necessary!
Each section is marked out of 40, and you're only allowed an error of 6, (34/40) which isn't a very big error margin, to gain the minimum of 7 in each band to claim the 10 extra points! (each section is marked out of 9, oddly lol)

Thanks for that. That was alot more than i expected to be honest. OH is a carpenter/builder and though by no means thick, i think he may of struggled with it! Now going down the state sponsorship route, so he doest have to do it!
