Citizenship by descent (adopted bajan mother) - Success story
Hello,
I posted here approximately 3 years and 2 months ago. It was so long ago I forgot my login password! and couldn't retrieve a 'forgotten password' because I'd long ago left the employer from which my email was registered under!

I come today to note that I received my citizenship by descent approval letter and certificate last week! It was such a long wait that I had just about given up.
A month or two (back in 2011), after applying to the Bajan-British consulate, I recieved a letter requesting a cheque for the administration fee (amount I can't remember) which I hadn't included. I did so, and then never heard back until now.
Anyway, for all those who may wonder if they can recieve citizenship by their adopted Bajan mother, I can anectdotally say yes, you can. My mother was adopted at a very young age and lived in Barbados until her early 30s when she married an Australian (my father). Therefore, she had an adoption certificate (and not a birth certificate), this was something which I was concerned would complicate the 'Application for citizenship by descent' application. We all now live in Australia and come back to bim every few years to see family.
I am now married, so the next steps are:
- Obtain a passport myself (If anyone knows: will I have to go for an interview in person? Or can this be done by mail?)
- See if my wife (of nearly 2 years) can obtain citizenship by marriage
We plan on moving to Bim eventually; but in life it is hard to predict so far in the future. Thus, it may be in our retirement, or before then. Who can predict?
I love Bim and hope that the beaurocratic problems in the Immigration department can be solved so that they are more efficient. Everyone would benefit - those who wish to move and live & work there, and Bim itself which could benefit from business and an economy which is facilitated by quick and decisive visa granting for those to work and live! (Just my 2ยข, though)

Hi Suprize thanks soo much for contributing with your update...its so nice to hear from people when they get thru on what they put out there to the universe...your right about the beaurocracy I think they need some real creative thinkers in the bajan government to bring new life and love to the economy as it really is a jewel of an island...there is so much more revenue to be had if they could only bring their visa process into alignment with how people are living nowadays..ie remote workers who could have residency visas which enable them to work out of Bim on their own businesses which means they bring foreign currency into the island but are not a burden on the state as dont have citizenship...
