Just checked and it looks like the 9% has gone down to 8.5% now:

Hi

We have HUF and £ accounts with Citibank Budapest.

If we transfer in £500 monthly no charges are applied to the accounts.

I have found if you transfer sterling into the HUF acct so that it is converted by Citibank not the english bank we get quite a good rate been in the region of 345 to 352.

I am sure there is a better way but convenient for the minute.

Am coming over to Budapest next week and will bring sterling with me, change it up somewhere with a good rate and then deposit in HUF acct.

I still keep a lot of my money in 2 UK bank accounts and for some months I have just been taking money out using cash machines, usually 50,000 or 100,000 HUF at a time. OTP has more machines than other banks and for the last few months they have offered to do the exchange at their end and my UK account just shows a Sterling withdrawal. This does work out cheaper than letting the UK bank do the currency exchange.
