Re: Riots.
It is pointless to get into a debate about British politics - Labour increases public spending, Tories feather the nests of the rich. Whichever way you think is correct will determine your political stance, unless you are a Liberal, then you have no stance in British politics really.

Re: Riots.
Listening to the BBC news 10 mins ago London Fire services say last night was their worse night since WWII and we now have No go areas around the city where gangs of teenagers have taken complete control.450 people so far arrested in London, 100 in Birmingham and loads more in Nottingham, Manchester and Liverpool. Our politicians are having a MEETING to discuss the problems after cutting their holidays short!
Now the discussions fall to the fact that when the trouble makers CCTV mug hots are shown on TV will the people who know them come forward or will their arrests cause further turmoil.

How are all these rioters getting time off work? They must have planned well in advance

Re: Riots.
Three youths have been detained trying to kill a police officer......enough is enough...
Speaking to BBC Breakfast, Theresa May would not be drawn on the option of calling in the army, saying that the UK is policed "by consent".
The home secretary said that unrest needed to stop, but cited "robust policing and good use of intelligence" as the means to this end.

Re: Riots.
Surely you know the answer to that one?
I love all this "get the army in", "bring in conscription" etc. (Not directed at you BTW, just in general).
How about being a bit radical: why don't the police do their f***ing job that they are paid to do. If they're not turning water cannon on people or using CS gas is it because the politicians have placed restrictions on them? If so, the same restrictions would be put on the army.
If there are no restrictions on them then it's (beyond) time to start getting a bit pro-active.

Re: Riots.
Have the Tory cuts been so swift that there were insufficient police to respond effectively when it first started? Is the whole Army overseas somewhere lol?
Seen it before but not seen the oh so lame response before.

Re: Riots.
Dealing with the riots by putting soldiers on the street won’t really nip the problem in the bud. Who is to say it will work at all, so they go home for this week…what about next and in a months’ time? Are we going to have the army on permanent standby to put down social unrest, like Syria?
The UKs unemployment problem needs to be dealt with and fast or I have little confident in the survival of this government, a return of business confidence or balancing the budget.
Edit: Anyway to put the army onto the street would be to admit that cuts to the police force where a massive mistake, it just won't happen.

Re: Riots.
It may be 'like' a war zone to some, but it is not. When the Grenades, Machine Guns, mortars are deployed, on both sides, then it will be a war zone.
What we need is a home secretary who shares your view? Shoot them? Yeah, lots of balls in that decision - machine gun down a load of teenagers. Thank god for castration.

Old leftie me couldn't agree more . There is no excuse for this kind of criminal behaviour.

Do also bear in mind (no, not an excuse) that the trigger (no, not an excuse) for all this was yet another pretty dubious Met Police shooting. Story already changing and backtracking - sounds like the injured policeman was actually shot by police bullets. Quite familiar - the 2005 Brazilian electrician shooting on the Tube made me sick. A very poor reflection on the British establishment that nobody went down for that. They love to prevaricate and fudge.

Let this escalate any more at your peril. Standing and watching people loot is not an option.

War Zone - An area in which military combat takes place.
