Default IT professionals in Vancouver

Hi all,

I find it difficult to network and meet IT professionals here in Vancouver. I'm currently looking for work (SQL Server/MS BI background) and would appreciate the chance to talk to and to connect with some IT folks based here in the Vancouver area.

Many thanks.

I don't work in IT, but I know many who do. Have you tried to connect with IT professionals online? via LinkedIn, LinkedIn groups, Meetup groups, Techvibes, etc.? Do you have a Twitter account? That's one easy way to break the ice amongst people of various professions in Vancouver - it's effectively one open chat group, an equalizer of sorts. Seek out names to Vancouver IT employers, and seek them out on Twitter. Follow them, see what they're tweeting, and jump into the conversation when relevant.

I know this may seem obvious, but seeing how nobody has responded yet, I figure this response would be better than no response.

Good luck!

I can't offer much advice other than trying linkedIn and other social networking sites. On linkedIn there's a Vancouver IT Professionals group but maybe you already know that. Difficulty with meeting people in Vancouver in any situation is a common complaint. I've often found jobs from someone I previously worked for or through an internal reference. Personally I think the job market is small and cliquey for a city this size.

Thanks everyone and Happy Easter. I have already tried contacting recruiters/linkedin/user groups, etc. but no luck so far (I've been here only for three weeks though). My visa is only valid until the end of this year and I really would love to start working so that I can apply under one of the BC PNP streams.
