That will be a useful resource for us to point people at when they come on here and say they want to retire to the us.

I haven't read the Age Concern site, but unless under US it says:

NO, YOU CAN'T RETIRE TO FLORIDA

in flashing red-on-yellow text, we'll still get 20 visitors per month here asking that very question, and not taking "no" for an answer!

Very poor information, here is what it says about Immigration:

Immigration

It is possible to move to another country in the EU without a visa but some countries require you to register or take out residency. Ensuring you are legally resident is often crucial to ensure you are able to access certain services in the country in which you are residing. In countries outside the EU, a visa may be required.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Further information can usually be found by contacting the embassy/high commission in the UK of the country you wish to move to.

I wouldn't say poor as such. Given the number of questions we get at the Consulate about moving to the US (and judging by some of the questions on this forum too) it's clear that some people have no idea that they need a visa to live in a foreign country. If the new Age Concern website flags up this fact to at least one person before they set off on their retirement plans then I'm happy with that.

But the US Consulate is not the best place to seek Visa advice, I do not know of other Consulates.

It usually ends with "American Embassy in London".

I would say the Embassy or Consulate of the country you want to live in is the FIRST place you should go to.

But the US won't know what's what, a lot of contracted help on those premium phone numbers and any info they provide isn't legally binding, so the advice should be to seek experienced legal advice...

May be for other countries, but not for the US.

Agreed, the information as a whole is far too brief to be useful and could well do more harm than good. Kind of surprised to see the British Consulate promoting it on their website.

The point of the website is to get people thinking about what they might need to do if they are considering a move overseas. Planting a thought that a visa might be required seems to me to be a very good starting point. Let's not get caught up in which visa is needed or which visa specialist to enlist, that's really not the job of Age Concern. It's up to the individual to make that informed decision.....

I was referring to the site as a whole, not the visa section in particular. The information is just too vague and/or flimsy to be of use, imo.
