Default Pertussis death

I'm very vocal about encouraging those going through the immigration process to get their vaccines up to date for their own health not just for passing the medical.

Well here is the sad reason. Pertussis (Whooping cough) kills children.

http://www.azcentral.com/news/articl...ince-2009.html

The numbers of cases are increasing rapidly across the country. It is becoming rampant in schools. Children too young to get their vaccines and older people who are immune compromised are at serious risk.

I am an expectant father, it is due in June and I am taking this personally. I am seriously asking each and every one of you to go get an adult booster of Tdap.

Here's a tip. If you go to your family doctor with a scratch or graze from your cat or gardening or whatever it is quite likely your insurance will pay for you to get the shot for nothing. Or you can go to Walgreens or CVS drop in clinics and pay about $10.

Do it now!

Sorry, I`m ignorant, what is Tdap?
Do you recommend everybody gets it?
My kids are grown up but I could be a grandma somewhere down the line.

Bottom line, all adults should be getting a booster shot particularly if you could be near kids. Only exception should be for medical reasons (allergic to ingredients such as eggs, or if you are immune compromised).

"Pertussis" would actually be quite the charming moniker - as infectious as herpes simplex. I would like to see the avatar!

My son and daughter-in-law have been nagging my hubby and me to get "shot" ever since our beautiful little granddaughter arrived in February. This is a good reminder.

Unfortunately another infant too young to be vaccinated has died.

I am shocked at the rate of increase in cases. Washington state which had 961 in the whole of 2011, has recorded 1132 cases in only 4 ish months of this year.
