Hello Fellow Travellers,

I want to bring my wife to New York City for New Year's Eve this year
and rent a hotel room overlooking Times Square.
I have never been to N.Y.C. so I do not know what hotels overlook Times
Square. I would ideally love to be able to "Watch the Ball Drop" from
our room, but am not sure how realistic that is (because I am not sure
if there are hotel rooms that permit that....and I am not made of money!!)
We plan on staying in N.Y.C from December 27th to January 2nd.
Any help, advice, or information would be greatly appreciated.

The Marriott Marquis is probably the only hotel that has a view of the ball
dropping. But only from some rooms, and those are likely to be very expensive
on New Year's Eve. You might find a hotel within walking distance of Times
Square and stay outside to watch. The Portland Square, for example, is a half
block from Times Square and is quite inexpensive by NYC standards. It is clean
and secure, but has very small rooms.
