Maybe my memory has gone. Whenever I returned from UK to NYC, the agents in Heathrow, always asked for my Green card, as proof I could go to USA, especially with a non-return ticket.
On returning, from Canada, will the Airline refuse to allow him on the plane.

There have been, many many threads on this subject. Think we have a winner, no one else ever tried it.

Reg. Frank R.

Ps. Of course, go to & from Canada, maybe much easier, then from Europe or South America.

In the UK it's the airline that requires to see your visa as they will not board you without a return ticket if you don't have permission to stay.

I don't think the OPs said whether he's entered Canada by plane or road. If by plane it's not the airline he will have to answer to because he will clear US immigration before he leaves Canada.

I thought he said he was flying. Regardless, if he shows his UK passport, he's VWP eligible (oops, might not have an ESTA though....

Never mind, this just got interesting again. He can't board a flight w/a UK passport and no ESTA and he won't have his green card anymore.

And he's getting married on this trip? I'm sure he doesn't want to think about this.

No it won't be. You have to apply for your first one in person. That's if you're let back in to be ablt to apply of course!

a) I don't recall it being specified. I seem to think this was a land border crossing, but can't remember why.

b) Yes, that is indeed interesting!

c) No, you're thinking of another thread. He went for work.

OP said he was flying as he's planning to allow extra time at the airport for the return trip -

Ahh...thanks.

It does seem that a land crossing would be less problematic, given that the OP doesn't have the correct documentation.

CBP *cannot refuse* entry of a US citizen. The OP will be let back in. The question is whether he'll be required to pay a waiver fee for not having the correct documents.

Yes but will the airline let him board the plane without the correct travel documentation?

As Mo said, it's got interesting again.

I suspect (at the minimum) some kind of secondary inspection is highly likely here.

I don't think they'd look that hard for his non-existent US passport.

Good point. A CBP checkpoint at the airport in Canada may be his salvation.

You are correct, however, from what I can see from the WHTI rules, is that, based on section 53.3 (Attempt of a citizen to enter without a valid passport) a waiver would only be permissible in the following circumstances (section 53.2: Exceptions):

(h) When the Department of State
waives, pursuant to EO 13323 of
December 30, 2003, Sec 2, the
requirement with respect to the U.S.
citizen because there is an unforeseen
emergency; or
(i) When the Department of State
waives, pursuant to EO 13323 of
December 30, 2003, Sec 2, the
requirement with respect to the U.S.
citizen for humanitarian or national
interest reasons.

Depending on his line of work, he might make it into (i), but I can't see how else he'd get in without getting into some serious bother?
