Nevada anyone?
Hello,
I've been giving some serious thought about relocating to Las Vegas. I spend a lot of time there already and I like the weather, the place is quite modern, good airport, cheap housing, no state tax and the roads don't appear to have pot holes big enough to swallow a whole car up. (Like NYC)
Does anyone have any experience of living down there?

Nevada can be a very decent place to live. I know several people who are very happy there.
Personally, I wouldn't choose Vegas but then, I wouldn't have chosen NYC either :-)

Are you talking about Nevada generally or just the Clark county kind of area?
Several problems with it, first off it is exceptionally dry even by Arizona standards and it appears to be getting worse. Plus it has no State income tax so it has pretty high property taxes to compensate.
Lake Las Vegas is quite nice, I seriously thought about buying property there but the taxes and utility costs put me off. In town there are a lot of sleazy dipstick kind of people but you just avoid the strip and the surrounding area.
Boulder is okay as well, very down-to-Earth sort of people I thought, have a look around there, one thing I strongly recommend is looking up the map of the I-11 bypass which is being built around Boulder so you don't end up living next to an exit ramp or something.
Also bear in mind it is pretty isolated, Salt Lake is a 400-mile drive, Phoenix is 300 miles and southern California is a long drive down I-15. Not a big deal for someone who lives in Calgary but coming from NYC it might be a bit of a shock.
