Maybe someone else will answer, but I'm not sure that either of your assumptions is correct.

Does anyone know much about scorpions? I mean, are they fine unless you disturb them and then they bite? Is that the story? Is their bite fatal?
They sting with their tail. Very rarely fatal.

I've been stung by one twice.

On two consecutive days.

It was in Mexico though, and they had got into the legs of my jeans, which I did check before putting on but apparently not thoroughly enough. I took an antihistamine, in case of allergic reaction, and the locals gave me milk (). Obviously not fatal, about as painful as, say, six wasps altogether. But there are many varieties. The ones in northern Mexico are the nasty ones apparently, and in North Africa.

I once found a chicken in my sleeping bag, in Guatemala. It didn't bite, but I do suspect it of leaving fleas. That was unpleasant.

I expect so. Dangerous beasts, chickens. All that kicking and scratching.

Sleeping bags can be surprisingly dangerous places. While camping as a teen, with other teens we thought it would be funny to throw a sleeping bagger into the lake. Poor kid nearly drowned.

Lol, we have 2 very active dogs, scorpions didn't mind a bit
We've lived upon this house for nearly 5 years and only seen 2 inside the house. We also live in a very rural area.
I haven't been stung by one but my neighbor's kid says it feels like a bee sting and the ones I've seen aren't very big. I always check my boots and shoes before I put them on though.

Don't panic. Scorpions are not so common in our part of Texas....we have enough other evil creatures to cope with!

FIRE ANTS...now they are truly evil and sadistic little buggers

Found a black widow spider in my back garden. A bit of a surprise since I live in the far north west. Apparently they aren't all that unusual here though.
