These blokes aren't going out looking for special treatment and at any rate - discounts and upgrades are at the airlines' discretion and nothing you, I or anyone else says or does will affect that in any way. That's just the way of things. If a soldier is ordered to wear his uniform while on duty; or at whatever given time, it is not his fault that people either feel the need, or have been made to feel the need to give them some special treatment. It doesn't mean they are better than us, they're just in a position where they attract that kind of positive attention. In my mind, we shouldn't be saying thank you - we should be saying sorry. Sorry we allowed governments to be elected that continue to send them off to some scorched desert to fight battles they shouldn't be fighting. Sorry that we allowed their mates to be killed doing the dirty work of a bunch of shameless politicians who sit in comfortable offices and suites 7,500 miles away. Sorry that through no fault of their own they are the target of negative attention that should be directed at the ones with stars on their epaulettes and not stripes on their sleeves. I'll admit I've been wrong about this in the past. A bit of thinking puts it into a clearer picture for you ...

I guess I was a little quick in responding to DS's post, I should have just ignored it instead of taking it personally. DS my apologies for the name calling!

Jay isn't active duty anymore, he retired in 07' but, he has one of the only civilian career fields that still gets deployed. This deployment came at a rough time for both of us, not going into details, suffice to say that he is not happy to be away from home right now!

A lot of the things that go on in Afghanistan are not reported on the news, obviously this being an election year is a big reason for that, but even if it wasn't I doubt it would make any difference.

Jay has always (through 23 yrs of ADAF) been proud to be part of the US military, this deployment however has really been an eye opener for him. He told me last week that every time "Honored remains" come through the base to be flown 'home', the flag is lowered to half mast. He cried as he told me that the flag has only been flying at "full mast" for two days since he has been there (over 2 months now)

Our plan was for Jay to finish 20 yrs as a Gov't civilian, he has just about 14 more to do. Recent events got us thinking that maybe we will rethink that plan, but this last two months has brought his decision forward and he will be 'getting out' before the end of the year.

I've been exceedingly naughty this morning. It's 7.30 am and everyone else in my house whose not preggers got decidedly drunk last night and left me in charge of all the children. So in the spirit (excuse pun) of the evening I duely obliged with childcare duties, once all children were in bed, excused myself with large box of quality street and pot of tea and watch movies all evening.

However having woken up bright as a button very early this morning, I've now allowed my 15 month yr old and the new puppy to play with the mini rugby ball up and down my newly sanded and echo ridden hallway.

There are alot of hungover groans coming from the various corners of my house this morning..hehehehehe - Karma's a bitch particuarlly when I'm in charge! ooops.

Feel very bad with myself today.

Saw the news about Yahoo making major lay offs and thought, ooo there could be an influx of rentals coming up

Hope they all find new jobs, in Minnesota or somewhere else that isn't here.

3 days until Easter Egg day and I've already eaten a Cadbury's Chocolate Chic and Easter Egg. All my Easter goodies are gone now...just hubby's left to eat.

Eaten the BF's Kids Easter eggs thought I would be able to replace them, it appears this is not the case, I cannot seem to find eggs anywhere, the orginal ones came from World Market and they have sold out, I am not talking pissy little creme eggs I am talking a proper sized boxed egg HELP!!!!

Snap!! I thought I'd be able to replace hubby's Cadbury's Easter chocs...to my surprise they've sold out. He'll have to make do with 3 bags of Cadbury's Mini Eggs made by Hershey. Sorry 2 bags...'cos I've downed a bag.
