Since I was misquoted I will add my thoughts on luvwelly's post.
No point in comparing Johnsonville to Petone. Petone has become very trendy and expensive. We sold our house there 9 years ago, prices since then have shot up. A done up 3 bed villa would cost around $550-$600k. Johnsonville about the same distance to Wellington, cheaper housing, no lovely cafe's or trendy shops and no beach. I drove through Johnsonville the other day and saw no point in stopping, each to his own but nothing there as far as I could see.
I don't seem to have any problem shopping up the coast. Porirua is only 20mins away and there is a big shopping centre and retail outlets there.
Lower Hutt has a shopping centre which I would say is big enough even by UK standards. But I guess most kiwi's don't think of shopping as a family day out but more something you do if you actually need something. Suits me as I hate shopping.
And as I have said on numerous occasions the weather is way better up here than anywhere past pukerua bay.
Hope all goes well on the job front

Lower Hutt Mall is much better than the Porirua one and to me feels much safer. The one at Paraparam.... I don't really get...marketed as a Regional Shopping Centre but not that good really (based on 2 visits).

I am suggesting Johnsonville as having cheaper housing but in zone for a decile 10 Mixed College - non-uniformed(Onslow).

Probably all a waste of time anyway as Love has just said. Even if they get the job, there's a house to sell.

It means nothing more than the fact that discussions between me and Babyella(?) on which is the best Mall are probably somewhat premature. It was directed at her not you.

Agree if you want basic's coastlands is Ok anything a bit special you need to go further. I feel sorry for the shops in the city, I never go shopping there. Why would I when I can go to a big mall and get what I want in one place with free parking. Sad but I think i'm not alone in that.

Don't give up yet! I have found the kiwi work place to be hopelessly slow at making contact, communication not a strong point here. So my fingers are still crossed for you.

A lot of employers here seem to play that game - all enthusiastic, when can you start?, we really like you bla bla bla then silence, nothing, nada! Then a couple of months later they expect you to still be available for them and the game starts all over again.

I know of people who have had several interviews with one company, with managers higher and higher up the chain, promised the job, then silence and not returning phone calls/emails. Suddenly the job no longer exists.

Many companies get ahead of themselves by advertising for jobs on projects that haven't even been signed off - I know, as I have been the victim of this too!

Fingers crossed for your hubby Bev

Funny you should say that my husband had about 3 interviews for a job in Oz. All enthusiastic, really thought the job was going to come about, then they decided they don't know what they want? Really annoying
