I have been on a fitness drive lately thanks to the Myfitnesspal app/site that I have been banging on about elsewhere. Currently down 1.5kg with about 5 to go so something is working.
Anyway, I stumbled across this thing on sugar and how the body is affected by it. I'm going to watch the full length video later and thought you lot might be interested: It's very well explained. |

Thanks for that. Trying to tone and tighten at the mo also. Mum is always banging on about how bad sugar is, maybe she's right. But I just love sugar!!!

I don't know why it's still news to some folks. Many of us have known this for years.
You'd think people would also be aware of just how much sugar they down daily. My husband was drinking one of those iced coffees...I showed him, "Um, according to the label, there's 12.5 tsp of sugar in that bottle." And that was one serving. Imagine what some people go through in a day. Last edited by Japonica : Mar 10th 2012 at 7:44 am. |

(speaking for myself). I've been reading on this topic for the past decade, and we eat healthy about 75% of the time (allowing for a hubby who would happily eat just meat and spuds the rest of his life and one kid whose fave food is sausage and bread, wholegrain at least). I restrict sugar intake at home, emphasize veggies, try to avoid processed foods. The most sugar this house saw was when my mother (diabetic but still die-hard junk food addict) came to visit and bought herself a basket full of fizzy drinks, Tim Tams, and chocolate from Coles just for her own consumption. It's gotten tougher as the kids get older and ask for canteen meals (ugh, just sugar and refined everything), or the brands and convenience types of foods they see in their friends' lunch kits ("But Mum, all my friends have brownies for lunch"). It's shocking really when you start adding up how much sugar kids are consuming. I was looking at a yogurt label...supposed to be healthy, right...but it had almost 30g of sugar per serving. Almost 8 teaspoons. Add that to the juice, dried fruit, crackers, well...you get the idea. Even too much of the "healthy" stuff is not good. Last edited by Japonica : Mar 10th 2012 at 8:41 am. |

Our kid's lunch is generally fairly healthy but she really reacts to sugar (as most kids do) so it is a continuing battle to maintain a decent blood sugar level. I'm going to read 'Good Calories, Bad Calories' now (prompted by the Underground Wellness site) and absorb some of that. Obviously no one theory is gospel but if it makes you think it's good. My weekly weigh in today, I'm expecting results but if they aren't there then no worries because I feel better and the clothes are better fitting. ![]() As I say, an interesting subject. |

Interesting - thanks for posting.
Ive given up sugar, chocolate and junk food for lent and try to lose a few pounds. I dont drink pop or such things like that - but it was really difficult the first few weeks; however the healthy smoothie I make each morning seems to really help.

I've been looking into the 'Paleo' way of life for the past week or so.............it's pretty much how I lost my 23kg, but with the exclusion of ALL grains and dairy....but it makes perfect sense when you read up on it. Low fat just produces heavier people.....it's all about the unrefined carbs.

I literally never drink soft drinks coke etc.
I cut out sugar from my tea about 5 years ago. I'm amazed at the people who drink a sports drink etc with their lunch every day. Not only are they expensive but must have sugar in them? I do eat pudding once or twice a week but I do train pretty hard too.
