Default Green Light for Malta

Hi Everyone,

Just been giving the green light off the wife to relocate to Malta.

Been in IT for the last 25 years, love diving and martial arts.

Not sure how to go about it but believe I have three options.

1. Sell the house and contents, make copious amounts of money, pack the car and drive to Malta. Once there rent an apartment and then get a job.

2. Get a job, move to Malta and then sell the house.

3. Sell the house, get a job then move.

I personally prefer number 1, stress free and a nice slow drive to Italy to catch the ferry

Any thoughts/comments would be greatly appreciated.

Also any tips by anyone who have made the move would be great so we don't hit any pitfalls. Understand this is not going to happen next week, have the house to get into order and etc at this end so looking at between July - November 2012

Many thanks

I'm not in Malta but wanted to wish you the best of luck with your adventure.

How are the plans going?

I can see why you like option 1, but unfortunately option 2 is probably the safest one.

I have know knowledge of the work situation in Malta, but it isn't the best of times in Europe.

At least if you still have a place back in the UK you have the option to return if you cant find work.

There seems to be lots of vacancies in I.T. which is an area that seems to be booming here recently. Expect a reduction in remuneration though, try Times Of Malta, careers section. Good luck.

Hi MaltaMan,

I have a list of links (Maltatimes included) I have compiled which I check all the time pertaining to IT positions. I hope with my skillsets and background that I should find a suitable position (fingers crossed).

Plans are going well but have decided to have a week out in Malta around June to get a feel for things and to check out a few areas for living.

Ken, there aren't many areas i would not recommend to live, but a lot depends on your criteria, if diving is your passion there are a lot of diving clubs North and South of Malta as well as Gozo, the latter may present problems for employment but you may touch lucky, even if you choose to live inland you won't be far from the coast, best thing is to look to rent for a few months to be sure everything is what you need it to be.

Hi MaltaMan,

You guessed it right, I love diving hence one of the reasons for the move (don't tell the wife :-) )

We are looking at a B & B for the first couple of weeks to get settled and apply for ID's and residency then from there look for rented accomodation.

I have 4 places on my list which I have picked up on the forum as nice quiet places to live:

Qawra (North)
Mellieha (North West)
Gharghur (North)
Attard (Central)

What's your thoughts on them?

Seems like a good choice of areas, Qawra is a bit touristy but if it suits your needs it's a good choice, last time i noticed diesel was around 1.30 and unleaded petrol was 1.40 Euro per litre approx.

That's a lot cheaper than the UK but then I would not expect to do a lot of driving in Malta )

I think that Mellieha is choice No1 at the moment.

Hi there,

I moved here in sept last year, I can recommend Mosta as a nice quiet place to live although it's not by the sea.

Good luck.
